uPVC vs Composite Doors
Choosing between a uPVC door and a composite door is one of the most common questions we're asked. Both are low maintenance and secure, but they're built differently.
uPVC doors
A uPVC door is made from a reinforced uPVC frame and panel. It is a cost-effective, low-maintenance choice that suits back doors, side doors and homes on a tighter budget. They come in a range of colours and woodgrain finishes.
Composite doors
A composite door combines several materials, typically a tough GRP (glass-reinforced plastic) outer skin over an insulated core. The result is a thicker, more solid door with a realistic timber-grain finish that doesn't need painting.
How they compare
- Security: both can have high-security multi-point locks. A composite door's thicker slab feels more solid
- Insulation: a composite door's insulated core usually gives it the edge
- Looks: composite doors look more like traditional timber doors
- Maintenance: both need little more than an occasional wipe-down
- Price: uPVC doors usually cost less
Our recommendation
For a front door, most customers choose composite for its look and solid feel. For back and side doors, uPVC is often the better value. Try our composite door designer or browse our uPVC doors.
